Is it wrong if I want this more than a C5 Corvette? 58k miles, 2009, turbo, manual, RED AS ALL HELL. Gibe. This look has aged wonderfully as well.
Am I insane for wanting this more than the V8 grunt of a C5 ‘Vette?

Nope, not insane. It's a good looking car.

Why not both? Put the ls1 in the sky. Problems solved.

No, you are immensely right. Just make sure your feet fit in the footwell easily, the clutch pedal was a bit tight for me.

Mallett has a conversion available .

You’re only insane if you want this car and also want to be able to pack more than a small duffel. A friend of my wife had one, but had to sell it due to the lack of space.

Only asking what I owe.
The seller owes $12k on a seven year old car that stickered around $30k new? Did they get their financing through the mafia?

Ben Rolland’s Jersey Loans.

Just you not, lest me be judged ... or something like that. Do what you want.

My mom somehow has one as her *only car*. I don’t get it.

My mom has a base model automatic. Before she got that she and I went and test drove a base model manual (which was $4k more expensive for some reason). My 5'6" self easily fits in a Sky.

That could also be a load of crap.

There are conversion kits.

My 6' self fit well enough, but I might need driving shoes.

Probably, but I prefer to think that in Saturn’s twilight, they were looking for any institution that would offer financing.

I need more money.

Don’t we all.

I don’t get it either. That car is the very definition of “second car”.

Everyone needs driving shoes.

LS3 in Sky

I’d take a thrashed C5 before a cherry sky/solstice. Friend of my moms bought one new and had to have the complete top replaced I know for sure twice maybe a third due to leaking. Also has issues with the top going up and down and had the top replaced as well under warranty. I drove a redline model and was unimpressed with it,

The C5 has a more balanced weight distribution, has more horsepower (and hp per pound even) and corners better. But equally important is just doing your freaky weird thing.

Have you driven one of these crap cans? I have. It’s not fun.

I believe GMAC offered decent loans until near the end, but I might be wrong. And why did Pontiac die and Buick survive? Because the Chinese LOVE them some Buicks. Very popular nameplate over there. For me, they remind me of my great Uncle Aaron - a pipe-smoking Buick man since the end of WWII.

Yes. My mom has an auto base model as her only car, and it’s a reasonably competent car. The auto held it back at autocross, though. We test drove a mid-range non-redline manual model before she got it and it was honestly a riot.

I do wonder how cost of ownership/repairs compares between the two, considering the Sky is a parts bin special.

Naw, I like it more!
![]() 08/11/2016 at 18:56 |

It’s an open gt underneath which just means GM parts bin special. My dad has a non red line in black on black and has had no issues with parts availability. It’s fun to drive but yeah visibility with the top up is meh but not terrible and without the turbo it’s just a nice cruiser.

I didn't need to know that...

Do it, and then GMPP tune it. Factory reflash to 290hp/tq.

I would. In my eyes it always looked better than the dated fifth gen and also better than the Solstice for whatever reason. It might be no Miata but it’s certainly a better ‘sports car’ than, say, a Toyota Solara so, as always, it's good to keep perspective. Buy what you can afford and what makes you happy.

This seems like one your better ideas. I’d go for the C5, but turbo sky is weirdly appealing as a toy. Experience (and maybe old age) has left me with no desire to ever again use a convertible as a daily driver.

Convertibles blow massive chunks, but the Sky at least has a sailcloth top instead of horrid vinyl. I’m trying to decide between a turbo Sky, a C5, or a Boxster as an attainable goal car for a year from now.

The Solstice is just a bit too rounded off and bulgy. So says the guy with a Miata and 8th-gen Riviera.

Not crazy.
Not for that reason anyways.
